The spiritual guardians of sevens rugby are firmly established as crowd favourites in Hong Kong thanks to their magical ball skills and also to the wizardry of one Waisale Serevi. They have the best success rate in Hong Kong, for including the two World Cup victories in 1997 and 2005, Fiji have won 12 times and been runners-up a further 10 times. The Hong Kong Sevens title is much revered back home with the government frequently declaring a public holiday whenever the sevens team succeeds. Last year New Zealand broke the islanders' hearts with a narrow 19-14 win in the Cup semi-final. Whatever the outcome, Fiji will always entertain with their free-flowing style. |
