The success story of Asian rugby, the Volcanoes have made tremendous strides since playing their first international test in 2006. The game, which was introduced primarily by the large number of British, Australian and New Zealand expatriates in the country, has taken root and is now growing rapidly in popularity. The massive strides are evidenced by the team's progress in the HSBC Asian Five Nations. In 2008, they were in the Fourth Division but have now advanced to the First Division which they host next month in a bid to join the elite Top 5 competition in 2013. The Philippines will be making their HSBC Sevens World Series debut in Hong Kong by virtue of finishing in the top four in last year's HSBC Asian Sevens Series.
