With Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) President Brian Stevenson, SBS, entering his horse Highland Dawn the HKRFU Cup could be part of a unique racing double tomorrow night as Mr Stevenson is also a Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Highland Dawn won on its last outing over 1200m at Happy Valley on March 1 2006. The John Moore trained five year old will be ridden by Eric Saint-Martin on Wednesday night.
The HKRFU will also be putting some of its top players in the paddock this Wednesday night as Racing with Rugby features a special Hong Kong Rugby Agility Race on the track. The members of this year's Hong Kong team for the Hong Kong Sevens will be put through their paces in a special speed and agility challenge. This unique race features some of Hong Kong rugby's true thoroughbreds and will provide the race goers with a taste of the speed and skill that will be on show at the Hong Kong Stadium during the Sevens.
Following the HKRFU Cup, Mr John Molloy, Chairman of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, accompanied by his wife, will present the trophy to the owner of the winning horse.
Racing With Rugby is part of the lead up to the commencement of "Sevens week" in Hong Kong and represents the perfect blend of Hong Kong's two favourite spectator sports, racing sport and the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens.
The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) is the organiser of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens, which will be held at the Hong Kong Stadium from Friday 31 March to Sunday 2 April in 2006.
The Hong Kong Sevens attracts spectators from around the world to watch 24 international rugby teams participate in a 3-day event spectacle of world class seven-a-side rugby. During the week leading up to the tournament there are many other rugby tournaments and games taking place in Hong Kong including mini, youth and women's tournaments and matches.
To HKRFU Cup was inaugurated in 2002 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union. Following the successful debut of this unique evening of racing sport and rugby, the HKRFU Cup was presented to the Hong Kong Jockey Club in perpetuity and is now competed for annually.
